Commuters heading in and out of Downtown West Palm Beach will have to wait a little while longer to use the heavily traveled Okeechobee Blvd. The major thoroughfare was closed at the Tri-Rail railroad tracks near Australian Ave on July 11. Palm Beach County Engineering road crews needed to fully close the road as an installation of a second left-turn lane onto northbound Tamarind Avenue required repositioning the rail road crossing gates. Crews also added a westbound through-lane on the north side of Okeechobee Blvd. west to the Australian Avenue entrance ramp.

The reopening of Okeechobee Blvd, originally set for this Friday August 12th has been scrapped due to last weeks heavy rain. The new announced reopening date is this Sunday August 14th, however officials warn that crews may not have the road reopened by then. (An announcement will be made by Officials should the roadway not be ready for Rush Hour this Monday) Alternates into the downtown area include, 45th St, Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, Belvedere Rd, and Southern Blvd.
