The attorney for the Miami police officer that was caught racing at speeds of over 120 mph tells Miami’s CBS4 that the reason his client didn’t stop for the first 7 minutes of being chased by a FHP officer was because he was trying to get out of her way! That’s a good one, try that next time you’re pulled over… just wait about 10 minutes into the pursuit and then when you’re pulled over say, “Oh, were you chasing me? I was trying to continually change lanes and weave in and out of traffic to get out of your way. I assumed you were pursuing someone else.”
The off-duty Miami police officer was pulled from his squad car at gunpoint by Florida Highway Patrol officer DJ Watts recently in a story that has received a lot of attention lately. Now, the representative of the Miami Police Union is critical of the traffic stop.
Javier Ortiz of the Miami Police Union called trooper Watts “completely unprofessional, very wreckless” and “there was no reason for her to pull a firearm and put it in the face of another police officer.”
The spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol responded saying “The Miami Police Union is entitled to its opinion. Our members protect the public regardless of who the violator is. She took an oath to uphold the law and that is what she did.”

This particular officer wasn’t going to a call. He was off-duty, going to his “other” job and was late. He just happened to be in uniform and driving his police car.
