Whitney Houston PhotosWhitney Houston has died at the age of 48. She was first known a pop music queen, later for her tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown and for her drug abuse.
MSNBC reports that Publicist Kristen Foster said on Saturday that the singer had died, but did not disclose the location or cause of death.
Houston was one of the world’s best selling artists from the middle of the 1980′s through the late 90′s. Her success transferred from music to movies with starring roles in movies like The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale.
Her vocal style influenced younger singers like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. In later years, her appearance and talent were clearly affected by her years of drug addiction.
“The biggest devil is me. I’m either my best friend or my worst enemy,” Houston told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in a 1992 interview.
The Queen of Pop is the most awarded female act of all time, having amassed a total of 415 awards over her career, including two Emmy Awards, six GRAMMY Awards, thirty Billboard Music Awards, and twenty-two American Music Awards.
CBS Radio’s “Fast Freddy” of Boston’s WBMX-FM was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where Whitney was found. He posted the following on his Facebook page:
“At 3:23 Whitney was found unresponsive in her room & 911 was called. They arrived in 2 minutes. Attempted to revive her. Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55pm today on the 4th floor or The Beverly Hilton Hotel. LAPD said no foul play or drugs found in her room. She was at the hotel for Clive Davis’ Annual Grammy Party tonight. At this point I am hearing the party will NOT be cancelled. It is still happening.”
